The American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) is pleased to announce the election of Dr. Sonbol A. Shahid-Salles, DO, MPH, to the AOF Board of Directors for a three-year term starting on January 1, 2024. Dr. Shahid-Salles, an accomplished emergency medicine physician and dedicated global health professional, brings a wealth of diverse experience to her new role.

Dr. Shahid-Salles practices emergency medicine at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Georgia, and completed her Emergency Medicine residency at the Michigan State University Genesys Regional Medical Center. She obtained her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (UPIKE KYCOM) in May 2010. In addition to her medical degree, she holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) with a focus on Global Health Policy from George Washington University.

Dr. Shahid-Salles' commitment to global health extends beyond clinical practice. Following graduate school, she collaborated with prominent organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank, and the U.S. National Institutes of Health, working alongside program managers, medical officers, researchers, and Ministers of Health worldwide. This collaboration was under the stewardship of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

In addition to active practice, Dr. Shahid-Salles serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Central Michigan University (Emergency Medicine), Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (Internal Medicine), and Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (Emergency Medicine).
