Recently, our Osteopathic community has lost a giant among us.

William G. Anderson, DO, passed away on August 16, 2026. He was 98 years old. 

His work in Civil Rights and in breaking barriers shaped his early years. His further leadership and his philanthropy shaped him later, and fueled his ambition to ensure opportunities for minority students in medicine.

He established the William G. Anderson, DO Scholarship Fund with the American Osteopathic Foundation a little more than 25 years ago. Since then, 70 Osteopathic medical students have been awarded scholarships for medical school. This year, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the fund, the AOF and Dr. Anderson announced 25 Anderson Scholars. Each were awarded $10,000. They are:
