The American Osteopathic Foundation proudly announces the election of Dr. Shane Sergent, DO, FAAEM, RDMS, FACOEP, FAWM, to its Board of Directors, beginning January 1, 2024.

Dr. Sergent, a highly experienced professional with over a decade of expertise in emergency medicine recently assumed the role of Central Region Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at Penn Highlands Healthcare, in northwestern Pennsylvania.

In addition to his professional career in emergency medicine, Dr. Sergent is immediate past president of DOCARE International, serves as Clinical Faculty and Medical Director of Global Health and Research at Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (MSUCOM) Institute of International Health, and as Clinical Faculty and Professor Honorario at Universidad César Vallejo in Trujillo, Peru. He has been involved with MSUCOM’s Peru Outreach program since 2009, implementing numerous research and health initiatives.

A graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, Dr. Sergent completed his residency in emergency medicine at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He holds fellowship status with the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, and the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Sergent is a member of the Wilderness Medical Society and the International Federation for Emergency Medicine.

Among his notable achievements, Dr. Sergent was elected as the Outstanding Resident of the Year in Emergency Medicine by the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) in partnership with the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, in 2016. He has a long history with the AOF having been awarded Rossnick International Travel Grants in both 2012 and 2015
