The American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) is pleased to announce the election of Joseph A. Zammuto, DO, as President of the Board of Directors effective January 1, 2024. Dr. Zammuto brings decades of professional and leadership experience to this crucial role.

Dr. Zammuto has been an integral part of the AOF, having served on the Board of Trustees since 2018. His recent role as President-elect has provided him with valuable insights and prepared him to lead the AOF with a visionary approach and a strong dedication to advancing Osteopathic medicine.

Rita Forden, CEO of the American Osteopathic Foundation, shared, "Dr. Zammuto has been an integral part of the Foundation for many years, helping AOF achieve success in many areas. The Foundation has been the fortunate beneficiary of his commitment, support, and visionary leadership. His board experience, professional acumen, and philanthropic spirit will lead the Foundation to new heights."

Dr. Zammuto's extensive work history reflects a lifelong commitment to the medical field. He has served as a family medicine physician in solo practice in Northern California and as a partner in medical groups for over three decades.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Zammuto has significantly contributed to medical education. He has served on the faculty at esteemed institutions such as Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, University of California at Davis, Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine, and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Zammuto has an impressive track record in professional organizations. In 1992, he served as the president of the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California (OPSC) and continued to play a leadership role in the organization for several decades. Additionally, he was appointed to the California Osteopathic Licensing Board in 2012, dedicating eight years to the role, with over half of that time spent as the board president.

Dr. Zammuto earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery from Midwestern University - Chicago College Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1983.
