The American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) is pleased to announce the election of Scott S. Cyrus, DO, FACOP as the President of the Board of Directors, effective January 1, 2025. Dr. Cyrus brings decades of professional and leadership experience to the role.

Having served on the Board of Trustees since 2019, Dr. Cyrus has been an integral part of the Foundation’s success. His previous role as Finance Chair, and most recently as President-Elect, has provided him with valuable insights and prepared him to lead the AOF.

“I am looking forward to this year as President,” says Dr. Cyrus. “After learning more about the history and importance of the Foundation through a commissioned 2024 Impact Study conducted in tandem with our 75th Anniversary year, it’s clear that the AOF is on the right track. As President-Elect, I was honored to have chaired the Finance Committee and overseen the Impact Study. I was delighted to hear the wonderful stories and impactful data provided after a yearlong, comprehensive analysis. We have a clear roadmap as to what we need to do to continue to support and elevate our Osteopathic family.”

Currently Clinical Professor, Chair of Clinical Medicine, and founding Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine at New Mexico State University, Dr. Cyrus is a dedicated Osteopathic pediatrician. He is also the President of Children and Adolescent Medical Services, Inc., where he has practiced since 1998. He also serves as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (OSU-COM) Department of Pediatrics.

A committed leader, Dr. Cyrus has served as Chair of both the New Mexico Osteopathic Political Action Committee and the Osteopathic Founder’s Foundation, and he sits on the New Mexico Osteopathic Medical Association’s Board of Trustees. Previously, he has served as President of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians, New Mexico Osteopathic Medical Association, Oklahoma Osteopathic Association and Tulsa Osteopathic Medical Society.

He received the Harold H. Finkel, DO and Arnold Melnick, DO Community Pediatrician of the Year Award in 2022. This award is given annually by the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) to one Osteopathic pediatrician who exhibits an exceptional commitment to their community.  He was also named the 2020 George W. Northrup Educator of the Year by the national Student Osteopathic Medical Association Foundation (SOMAF) for his mentorship of Osteopathic medical students.

Dr. Cyrus earned his DO degree from OSU-COM. He is board certified in Pediatrics by the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics and completed an American Osteopathic Association/Ohio University – Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Health Policy Fellowship.

“Dr. Cyrus is a passionate educator and leader who is committed to finding new ways to advance the Osteopathic medical profession,” says Rita Forden, AOF CEO. “His impressive record of leadership will help guide the American Osteopathic Foundation as we plan for our next 75 years of supporting and elevating Osteopathic excellence.”
