Increasing access to comprehensive primary care for people experiencing homelessness on their own terms is the mission of Nurses Global Outreach’s ICT Street Team, the 2019 recipient of the AOF’s Caring for Communities Grant.
Individuals experiencing homelessness face unique challenges in accessing consistent quality health care. The Wichita, Kansas, based ITC Street Team aims to remove barriers, using a mobile medical model and volunteer DOs, nurse practitioners, students, and allied health professionals to treat illnesses, evaluate injuries, and provide medications.
“Through focused research, utilization of evidence‐based modalities, relationship building, and passion for the underserved, our organization has redefined healthcare for the homeless in our community,” says Amanda Ruxton, DO, Medical Director for ICT Street Team.
ITC Street Team will use the AOF Caring for Communities grant for a focused, integrated care program to enable patient case management, prescription assistance, and chronic disease management; building on an already successful program and expanding the services provides to this vulnerable population.
Congratulations, ITC Street Team!
