The American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) is pleased to announce the election of Wes Metheny to the AOF Board of Directors for a three-year term starting on January 1, 2025. Mr. Metheny, a public affairs and advocacy expert, will bring a unique perspective to his new role on the Board.
“Mr. Metheny’s business acumen, strategic background and intimate knowledge about public affairs is a valuable set of skills that he brings to the AOF Board of Directors,” says the Foundation’s CEO, Rita Forden. “As a professional from the private sector who has deep knowledge of corporate and governmental affairs, he can help us innovate new ideas on how we can advance our mission.”
For over three decades, Wes Metheny has been at the forefront of health care, leading transformative public affairs, and advancing initiatives to improve and health care across the country. In 2012, Mr. Metheny launched Penn Quarter Partners (PQP), a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm specializing in navigating complex health care issues for innovators in health care, representing biopharmaceutical, diagnostic, and medical device companies.
Throughout his career, Mr. Metheny has demonstrated a remarkable ability to develop and spearhead campaigns that yield concrete outcomes, notably contributing to the enactment of pivotal public policies, such as the FDA Modernization Act, Medicare Part D, the Affordable Care Act, and the US Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act.
Mr. Metheny’s innovative strategies in health care are exemplified by initiatives like the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease, tackling the underlying causes of rising healthcare costs, and the Medicare Rx Education Network, aiding millions of seniors in enrolling for Medicare Part D. Furthermore, his founding of the Partnership for Prescription Assistance helped thousands of uninsured and underinsured patients in need receive free or nearly free medicines. Mr. Metheny’s strategic guidance has improved patient well-being while helping advance health care discoveries.
Prior to establishing PQP, Mr. Metheny served as Senior Vice President at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), where he played a key role in transforming the organization into one of the nation's most effective advocacy entities. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Mr. Metheny currently resides in Annapolis, Maryland, with his wife and three children.
“I am thrilled to be able to share my knowledge and skillset with the American Osteopathic Foundation and its Board,” says Mr. Metheny. “I value the Osteopathic profession’s holistic approach and want to help the AOF support medical students, residents, and DOs throughout their journey as they face enormous challenges navigating the healthcare landscape. I also hope that I can help get the AOF on the radar of different corporate entities and help further their fundraising initiatives,” he adds.
