Grants & Programs
Through the support and contributions of family, friends and CCOM alumni, the Paul S. McCord, D.O. Memorial Scholarship was created. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student from the third-year class at CCOM who is committed to providing medical service in underserved and/or disadvantaged areas, has willingly volunteered beyond the requirement of CCOM, has demonstrated a high degree of care and concern for the underserved, and has been in a leadership role while caring for the underserved and disadvantaged.
Scholarship
One (1) educational scholarship of $1,500 will be presented to one (1) OMS-III student enrolled at Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine who exemplifies the purpose of the award.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be an OMS III in good standing enrolled at MWU/CCOM.
- Examples in addressing inequities in medical education or health care and/or providing medical services to under-served and/or disadvantaged communities
- Volunteer activities including service projects, philanthropic activities, health policy initiatives or other examples that serve to demonstrate their commitment to others
- Must have demonstrated leadership qualities within the classroom and community
- Must not put other grants or scholarships at risk by accepting this award
- Complimentary student membership in the AOA required for nomination.
Nomination Requirements
- Completed online nomination form from MWU/CCOM administration
- A Letter of Good Standing from the Dean or their representative confirming academic standing and verification that, if received, this award will not render the student illegible for other grants/scholarship opportunities within the school.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation from the following list: academic medical instructor, Osteopathic physician, professional mentor, or similar professional within the Osteopathic profession that describe how the applicant exemplifies the purpose of the award. NOTE: one must be from an Osteopathic Physician.
- Brief (one page) personal statement addressing criteria specific to the award
- Curriculum Vitae or Resume (include all memberships, Osteopathic or other)
- Proof of AOA membership
