The American Osteopathic Foundation’s Rocovich Research Grant was established in 2019 by Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine to recognize founders John Rocovich, JD, and Sue Ellen Rocovich, DO, in gratitude for their strong support of Osteopathic medicine and the advancement of knowledge through Osteopathic medical research.
Purpose
This research grant is given annually to support the research of one (1) Osteopathic medical student, resident, or physician who is contributing to scholarly work on the biomechanical, biomedical, or clinical aspects of Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT).
Grant
A grant of $5,000 will be awarded to one (1) individual who exemplifies the grant’s purpose. Grant will be distributed in two installments: first installment of $4,000 upon completion of the grant agreement, and final installment of $1,000 upon completion of the final grant report.
Eligibility
- An Osteopathic medical student, resident, or physician currently conducting research and submitting articles for publication on the biomechanical, biomedical, or clinical aspects of Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT).
- Current AOA membership required to apply. (Students may register for complimentary AOA membership here.)
Application Requirements
- Completed online application – applicants may apply directly
- Two (2) letters of recommendation, including:
- One (1) letter of recommendation from the applicant’s lead mentor (advisor) on institutional letterhead, describing their role in the research project, commitment to the applicant’s training, and experience mentoring other students, residents, or junior faculty researchers.
- One (1) letter of recommendation of nominee’s choosing; however, a DO, PhD, or other Osteopathic professional’s recommendation is strongly preferred.
- Stage/Phase of Research; Title of Paper or Research Report
- Concept paper
- Research Project Plan: Clearly outline the background, hypothesis(es), specific aims, and scientific approaches that will be taken to address each specific aim. An impact statement should also be included that describes the importance of this research to the practice of Osteopathic medicine.
- Proof of AOA membership
- CV/Resume/Bio sketch
Review Process
Application period opens March 3, 2025, and closes May 12, 2025. The selected applicant and their SOM/COM or institution will be notified by July 31, 2025. Selected recipient will be invited to attend the American Osteopathic Foundation’s Honors Gala event on Friday, September 26, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee, TN, and will receive recognition of their scholarship in the Honors Tribute Book. The recipient will also receive one (1) complimentary ticket to Honors and a travel stipend to defray travel and hotel accommodation costs to attend the event.
