The AOF is pleased to recognize Kathryn A. Hawks, OMS III, as the 2019 recipient of the Thomas A. Quinn, DO, Osteopathic Scholarship.
Currently a third-year osteopathic medical student at Lincoln Memorial University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM), Student Doctor Hawks is passionate about pursuing education in primary care rooted in osteopathic principles, which aligns with her eventual desire to practice in an underserved area. Following graduation from osteopathic medical school, she intends to pursue a family medicine residency with osteopathic recognition.
A natural leader, Student Doctor was the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians Student Association’s national student board secretary in her third year, and was as an osteopathic medicine fellow at LMU-DCOM, a role that included planning events and fundraisers that support osteopathic family medicine ideals. She also served as Treasurer for the Sigma Sigma Phi osteopathic honors society in 2017-18.
Student Doctor Hawks says, “I have learned that…if I treat patients with decency and kindness and simply listen, I can make a positive impact. I try to translate this to my leadership roles. I have learned that leadership is more than a high position; it is about working consistently at the front lines of medicine to make change for the better.”
