2015 James M. Lally, DO Emerging Leader Award

Daniel Clearfield, DO, demonstrates the vision, integrity and passion of an osteopathic physician leader to his patients, students and peers, and has done so since the beginning of his young career. A second generation DO, Dr. Clearfield innately understands osteopathic medicine, sharing his knowledge with osteopathic medical students and putting it into practice daily to treat and prevent injuries for professional and amateur athletes.

Board Certified in Family Practice, Sports Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, Dr. Clearfield has experience with all levels of athletes including NCAA Divisions I, II & III, Olympian, NFL, NHL, USA Wrestling, USA Judo, USA Volleyball, US Amateur Boxing, MMA and WWE. Additionally, he serves as the team physician for USA Wrestling and USA Judo working more than 180 games, events, and tournaments.

After receiving his DO Degree from the University of North Texas Health Sciences - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHS/TCOM) and earning his MS in Clinical Research and Education in OMM, Dr. Clearfield became chief intern, followed by family practice medicine residency chief resident at Doctors Hospital – Ohio Health in Columbus, Ohio. He has earned multiple awards, including for teaching excellence, the 2010 AOF Outstanding Resident of the Year and the title of “Top Doc in Sport Medicine” in Fort Worth, Texas.

After completing his sports medicine fellowship at Overlook Hospital - Atlantic Health in Summit, New Jersey in 2011 he joined UNTHSC/TCOM as assistant professor in the department of orthopedic surgery. While there, Dr. Clearfield has initiated cutting edge technology in the clinics and has developed team physician relationships at local schools to provide care to local athletes.

His service for the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) OPP Committee, the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine’s (AMSSM) Fellowship Committee and Professional Development sub-committee, and the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (AOASM) Board of Directors, are only but a few examples in which he has helped advance osteopathic education.

A respected medical educator, skillful osteopathic physician for countless athletes, researcher, dedicated volunteer and tireless advocate for the advancement of osteopathic medicine, it is with great pride that the AOF honors Daniel Clearfield, DO with the James M. Lally, DO Emerging Leader Award.
