AOF/AOA New Investigator Grant

The AOF and American Osteopathic Association (AOA) established a joint New Investigator Research Fund in 2018 to build a pipeline and advance the scientific training of new investigators by providing funding of up to $50,000 for DOs, MDs or PhDs conducting 18-month studies that focus on osteopathic principles.

The first ever recipient of this grant is Alexis Marie LaPietra, DO, FACEP, FAAEM from St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center Foundation. Her current research: Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment vs. Standard Therapy in the Management of Acute Neck and Low Back Pain in the Emergency Department.

Nominations for the 2020 cycle will be accepted beginning in November 2019.

Individuals who previously competed successfully as a Principal Investigator (PI) for a larger AOA grant (i.e., $100,000-$150,000 grant award) and/or received an R01 National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant or its equivalent as a PI are not eligible.
